Scientific report 2021 of the Transplant Complications Working Party (TCWP)

Major achievements

The working party is chaired by Zinaida Peric, supported by Ivan Moiseev (Secretary) and divided into four subcommittes: Regimen-related toxicities and supportive care subcommittee chaired by Christian Koenecke, Graft-versus-host disease subcommittee chaired by Olaf Penack, Survivorship subcommittee chaired by Helene Schoemans and Artificial intelligence subcommittee chaired by Grzegorz Basak. We currently manage approximately 30 retrospective and prospective studies and we have successfully published 9 manuscripts this year. Our work has also been accepted as oral and poster presentations at annual EBMT and ASH meetings.

The TCWP follows the evolution of studies through regularly held monthly teleconferences; we continued to keep strong links with other working parties through many joint studies, as well as with the CIBMTR which resulted in valuable consensus manuscripts. We broadened our collaborations to other international societies which led to important joint projects in the field of complications. Furthermore, we have established an important collaboration with the Patients Advocacy Committee in the initiative named EBMT Patient Engagement Taskforce, with a goal to promote an active participation of patients, donors, caregivers and health care professionals as partners in EBMT’s activities.

The TCWP is continuously dedicated to including new EBMT members to our business meetings, this year we particularly collaborated with the newly formed EBMT Trainee Committee and encouraged junior colleagues to join us. Our June and December virtual business meetings were very successful with many new study proposals presented. We have also managed to introduce a new form of studies by using digital technologies as machine learning. Finally, we have actively participated in the GoCART initiative and proposed several new studies focused on early complications of CAR-T therapies.
