Activity report 2021 of the Global Committee
The EBMT Global committee (EGC) was created by the EBMT Board in October 2017 to further extend the scope of stem cell transplantation and cell therapy to as many transplant teams as possible outside Europe to extend further our common knowledge, medical training and research.

Despite the COVID pandemics that has considerably restrained presential activity, the EBMT Global Committee (EGC) during the past year has achieved some major objectives.
Global Committee renewal
The EGC has been renewed for two years. Most members of the first EGC have expressed their wish to remain on board. You can view the list of members below.

EBMT China Office in Shanghai
With the help of the EBMT board, the Chinese Society of Hematology and the Boxiao Society/foundation (President Mr ZhengYi), the EBMT CHINA office has been officially created in Shanghai on December 2020 with a legal ceremony online with the presence of official representatives of the department of sciences and technologies of the townhall of Shanghai.
The localization has been offered for free by the Boxiao society/Foundation in the heart of Shanghai with a facility that includes a meeting room and available videoconferencing.
Legal documents have been processed all over the year 2021 and as it stands now, the governing body consists of Pr Nicolaus Kroeger (EBMT President), Pr Norbert Claude Gorin (EGC Chair) for EBMT, Pr Wu Depei in Suzhou (President Chinese Society of Hematology) and Pr Huang He in Hangzhou (Dean of the First Affiliated Hospital and Director of Hematology Institution Zhejiang University School of Medicine.) for China.
The scientific structure is under the supervision of Pr Norbert Claude Gorin, principal senior investigator (PI) for EBMT, assisted of two executive Chinese co-PI: Dr Chen Jia from Suzhou and Dr Yishan Ye from Hangzhou. Mr Ban Zheng, localized in Paris, greatly facilitates the logistic of scientific affairs and Eva Yu (Boxiao) kindly ensures the administrative work of the structure in Shanghai in liaison with the EBMT office in Barcelona. Two retrospective EBMT-CHINA studies have already been launched.
Monthly online meetings have taken place since then to ensure completion of the administrative tasks as well as parallel monthly meetings devoted to clinical research.
A first EBMT-CHINA inaugural scientific forum was planned to take place in Shanghai on November 19th co-organized by EBMT and the national research center for translational medicine in Ruijin hospital. It was to be a hybrid meeting with Chinese speakers and participants locally present and EBMT speakers online. By November 16th all EBMT participants had prerecorded their talks, when unfortunately, because of the new COVID19 pandemic burst in China, the Chinese authorities decided to cancel meetings in Shanghai. We hope this first forum will be rescheduled in 2022.
Already an application has been received by EBMT to host the second EBMT CHINA forum in Tianjin.
Eighteen new Chinese teams have so far applied to become EBMT team members and their applications have been successfully reviewed so that they are at the moment provisional members to be definitively approved following the decision of the EBMT General Assembly during the Annual Meeting 2022 in Prague.
