Dear EBMT Community,
As 2024 comes to a close, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you—our dedicated community of healthcare professionals—for your unwavering commitment to saving the lives of patients with blood cancers and other life-threatening diseases. Your efforts continue to push the boundaries of science and care, inspiring hope for patients and their families worldwide.
This year, we were delighted to welcome many new members—both centers and individuals—into the EBMT family. Your involvement strengthens our collective impact and reinforces our shared vision of improving patient outcomes through collaboration, innovation, and education.
Celebrating 2024 Achievements
Looking back, 2024 has been a year of remarkable milestones:
EBMT’s 50th Anniversary: We marked five decades of transformative research and care with a year-long celebration. You can revisit the highlights of this special occasion by exploring our dedicated webpage: 50 Years of EBMT.
Advancing the EBMT Registry: In August, we celebrated the first anniversary of the updated EBMT Registry. While challenges remain, significant updates and enhancements have been made. On 9 September 2024, the Registry reached a historic milestone—recording data for 10,000 CAR-T therapy patients. This achievement highlights the expanding role and impact of CAR-T therapy in treating haematological malignancies and showcases the exceptional efforts of our EBMT centres.
Expanding Educational Resources: We launched the revised second edition of the open-access EBMT Handbook and unveiled the EBMT Educational Library, a comprehensive repository of resources, including recordings of educational events, recommended publications, guidelines, and specialised handbooks. These initiatives underline our commitment to supporting healthcare professionals and fostering the next generation of transplant and cell therapy specialists.
Reuniting at Key Events: Our community gathered in Glasgow from 14–17 April for the special 50th Annual Meeting and at various working party educational events throughout the year. These gatherings highlighted our shared commitment to advancing care and research.
Strengthening Global Partnerships: EBMT continued to deepen its collaborations with European and international organisations, EHA, CIBMTR, ISCT, etc. to name just a few scientific partners, furthering the fight against blood disorders on a global scale.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we move forward, EBMT remains firmly focused on our strategic priorities for 2023–2026. We will continue building a stronger community, ensuring that our network continues to grow, diversify, and thrive.
I am excited about what lies ahead and confident that, together, we will achieve even greater things in 2025. Thank you for your dedication, expertise, and collaboration—it is through your efforts that we continue to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families.
See you soon in Florence at the 51st Annual Meeting of the EBMT. In the meantime, wishing you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
Warm regards,
Anna Sureda
President, EBMT
