1-3 October 2025, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Summary report written by Lars Klingen Gjærde, TCWP Secretary
This year, the Transplant Complications Working Party’s Educational Meeting happened in the gorgeous town of Dubrovnik in Croatia from October 1–3. As in previous years, the goal of the meeting was to create a forum for learning about and discussing practice-based topics that are underrepresented in articles or books. Through case-based and hands-on teaching by clinical experts, including both doctors and nurses, and inspiring stories about the patient perspectives, the almost hundred participants improved their competences and skills on how to survive stem cell transplantation and CAR T-cell therapy.
After a productive TCWP Business Meeting on the first afternoon, the next day was all about the patient journey through allogeneic stem cell transplantation with keynote lectures on acute GVHD, prevention of allo-transplant complications, TMA, chronic GvHD and patient reported outcomes. The keynote lectures were followed by case presentations and interactive panel discussion about recognition of complications after allogeneic stem cell transplantation and their treatments. The final day was focused on CAR T-cell therapy and the patient journey through the treatment and through the therapy complications, again with keynote lectures followed by case presentations and lively panel discussions with interactions with the audience.
The meeting gave the participants a solid knowledge of the historical aspects and the current state-of-the-art in how to manage allogeneic transplant and CAR T-cell complications, both from the viewpoint of the nurse, physician, health care system and the patient herself. In addition, the interactions during and after the sessions – as well as the vibrant networking dinner – fostered the already great international network of healthcare professionals dedicated to reducing the mortality and morbidity of allogeneic transplant and CAR T-cell therapy.
The success of the meeting was due to the excellent organisation, a welcoming host city, and the active and constructive participation of the attendees. The TCWP already looks forward to next year’s Educational Meeting, which will be in Madrid, Spain from November 19–21, 2026, in joint collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Working Party (IDWP). See you there!
