2nd workshop on European academic CART clinical trials
Dear friends,
The 4th of June 2021 the EBMT CTIWP, with the GoCART coalition and the T2EVOLVE consortium organized the First workshop on European academic CART clinical trials. The first part of the workshop identified that there are several academic European institutions with the strategy and resources (skills, knowledge, and infrastructure) to develop their own genetic constructs and CARTs, and that are able to bring these technologies to the point where they are able to conduct a clinical trial. Common difficulties, uncertainties, and successes when running academic clinical trials were discussed. The second part of the symposium consisted of two round tables discussing aspects such as sustainability, regulatory issues, synergies, and political lobbying.
We now announce the second workshop that will be focused on some initiatives to foster academic European CART development, mainly establishing a limited number of centralized clean room facilities for preparing vectors, dissemination in Europe of Point of Care production of the CART, and to lobby with EMA and the European Commission for simplifying directives which regulate ATMP productions. The global aim of the workshop is to facilitate and coordinate European academic initiatives in the CART field with the final aim to be approved by the EMA.
