The 2026 China-Europe Scientific Forum on Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy was successfully held in Shanghai on June 5, 2026. The event was jointly organized by Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases-Peking University, Institute of Hematology and EBMT Shanghai Office. It was co-hosted by Shanghai Guangci Translational Medical Research Development Foundation and the MedScience, with the support of the Boxiao Foundation under the aegis of the Fondation de France.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Chen Saijuan , Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and foreign Corresponding Member of the French National Academy of Medicine, emphasized that China-Europe cooperation on haematology had evolved from academic exchanges to a new stage of collaborative innovation. Through breakthroughs in research on the molecular mechanism and target therapy for Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APL), she illustrated that international collaboration was a key driver for medical innovation and better patient outcomes. Professor Huang Xiaojun, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and foreign Corresponding Member of the French National Academy of Medicine, stated that after four years and four host cities the forum had become a vital bridge connecting hematology communities in China and Europe, laying a solid foundation for further exchanges and cooperation. Professor Ibrahim Yakoub-Agha, President of EBMT, noted that the forum served as an important platform for China-Europe exchanges in hematology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and advancing cellular therapy. He acknowledged the continuous support from Chinese members on the EBMT cooperative system and pointed out that a growing number of Chinese members had been deeply integrated into EBMT research network, which reflecting the breadth and depth of bilateral cooperation. He also expressed gratitude to the Boxiao Foundation for its long-standing support of China-Europe cooperation and exchange. Professor Hu Yu, president of the Chinese Association of Hematology, acknowledged the fruitful achievements of long-term academic and research cooperation between EBMT and the Hematology Branch of Chinese Medical Association.
Following the opening ceremony, the EBMT New Member Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held, presided over by Professor Norbert Claude Gorin, former President of the EBMT Global Committee. Professor Ibrahim Yakoub-Agha (President of EBMT) and Professor Zhang Xiaohui (President-Elect of the Chinese Association of Hematology) jointly presented membership certificates to the new Chinese centre members.

Throughout the forum, experts from China and Europe engaged in in-depth discussions on six sessions: Translational Medicine, Leukemia, Lymphoma, Cellular Therapy, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, and New Technologies and Methods for Hematological Diseases. Especially, Professor Chen Zhu, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and foreign Member of the French Academy of Sciences, delivered a keynote address. In his address, he reviewed achievements in the prevention and treatment of hematological malignancies as well as healthcare system reform in China, and set a target of reducing PMR-NCD4 by 30% by Year 2030. He also highlighted the vital role of EBMT cooperation in advancing international collaborative innovation, which won enthusiastic responses and high praise from experts from both China and Europe. The forum covered a wide range of topics from fundamental mechanism research to precision diagnosis and treatment of diseases, from innovation in therapeutic approaches to exploration of cutting-edge technologies. The participating experts comprehensively presented an innovative vision of hematology evolving from laboratory discoveries into clinical translation. This event not only showed a collection of academic achievements, but also the common vision of hematology communities between China and Europe to advance innovative breakthroughs and jointly improve patient outcomes.
