It is with great sadness that we have been informed about the recent passing of Erik van Maarseveen, a dear and highly valuable pharmacist, colleague and friend.

Erik worked at the University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands, as a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist. He was the head of the Laboratory of Pharmacy and was a designated JACIE-pharmacist. His research focused on clinical pharmacology and clinical mass spectrometry in solid organ and stem cell transplantation, infectious diseases, cystic fibrosis and oncology. He was an author of numerous scientific publications and was an excellent and highly valued speaker on many international conferences. Erik was one of the driving and inspiring forces in our EBMT Pharmacists Committee. He was engaged in many scientific national and international associations and societies, and actively involved in important projects regarding clinical pharmacy and pharmacology.

Erik was always busy to push forward pharmacokinetic knowledge from bench to bedside and to build national and international liaisons. He worked tirelessly on optimizing drug treatment in the field of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

He was a very friendly, engaged and empathic person, an excellent scientist and a very good team player.

He died at such a young age, which is a tragic loss for our field.

We will always hold him in the highest regard and honor his memory!

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.
