It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Riccardo Saccardi, an internationally renowned scientist and a dedicated member of the EBMT community. Riccardo fought valiantly against a prolonged illness and left us on Monday the 19th of February 2024.
Riccardo's dedication to advancing the field of haematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy and his exemplary leadership within EBMT will be profoundly missed. He made a huge contribution as Chair of the Autoimmune Diseases Working Party (ADWP) of the EBMT from 2004 to 2010, in addition to his commitment as Medical Director of JACIE from 2016 to 2020 and Member of the FACT-JACIE Standards Steering Committee. Over the last several years, Riccardo was leading the Benchmarking project providing transplant professionals with a means to assess how their unit is performing compared to the wider BMT community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Riccardo’s family, friends, and colleagues from the Careggi Hospital, during this difficult time.
