We are delighted to announce that the Ukrainian Association of Bone Marrow Transplantation (UABMT) was founded by representatives of Kyiv Bone Marrow Transplantation Center, Cherkassy Regional Oncology Hospital, National Cancer Institute, National Specialised Children’s Hospital «Ohmatdyt», Institute Of Blood Pathology And Transfusion Medicine, Kyiv Regional Oncology Hospital, Feofaniya Hospital, Lviv Regional Children’s Specialized Clinical Hospital, and Ukrainian Bone Marrow Donors Registry on May 10th, 2023.
The mission of the UABMT is to promote excellence in basic understanding and clinical practice of transplantation of haematopoietic stem cells and cellular therapy in paediatric and adult patients; deepening of international cooperation in the field of medicine; satisfaction and protection of legitimate social, professional, economic, creative, age-related, national-cultural and other common interests of members of the UABMT; training of professional staff and continuous improvement of qualifications of specialists working in the field of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy and related fields; development of the medical care system in Ukraine according to international standards, maintenance of high quality standards of medical care, as well as unification of specialists working in the field of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy and related fields in Ukraine.
We also congratulate Dr. Iryna Korenkova and Dr. Olexander Lysytsa, who were elected President and Vice-President of UABMT, respectively.
The UABMT was presented to the medical community at the XIІ scientific conference «Diagnostics and treatment of hematological disorders» in Kyiv on May 11th, 2023, where the UABMT creation was greeted by the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (WBMT), the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT), the European Leukemia Net (ELN), American Society of Hematology (ASH), Zentrales Knochenmarkspende-Register/German National Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ZKRD), Münchner Leukämie Labor (MLL), NOPHO, and other help for Hematology Ukrainian Patients (HUP) organisations.
We encourage medical professionals and other stakeholders in the field of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy to join the UABMT. The first successful deliverables include an Emergency Preparedness plan in cooperation with all Ukrainian Transplant Centers, Webinars and weekly medical discussions on hematological patients. A network of molecular, cytogenetic, cytology and flow diagnostics in Haematology is operating since many months for Ukrainian patients.
