The 52nd Annual Meeting of the EBMT, held at the IFEMA Congress Centre in Madrid, Spain, was a vibrant and inspiring celebration of excellence across the EBMT community. Set within the wider Annual Meeting, the Quality Management Day 2026 brought together professionals united by a shared passion for quality, safety and continuous improvement in patient care.
A Day of Connection, Learning and Inspiration
The Quality Management Day commenced with the Meet the Expert sessions, which provided a unique opportunity for small-group, informal dialogue with experienced professionals. These invaluable sessions enabled participants to ask practical, real-world questions, explore shared challenges and gain expert insight into quality management topics directly relevant to their roles. The open and collegial atmosphere fostered meaningful conversations and peer learning and was widely appreciated by attendees.
The quality programme then showcased a carefully balanced series of sessions, closely aligned with the current priorities and challenges facing EBMT centres. Sessions focused on practical implementation of quality systems, evolving certification and regulatory expectations, risk-based quality management and strategies for continuous improvement in increasingly complex clinical environments. Sessions were designed to support centres at different stages of quality system maturity, combining strategic overviews with practical insights drawn from real-world experiences.
The QMC also had the pleasure to present Lisandra Priscilla Hernández Morales (Spain) as the winner of the best Quality Management Abstract Award in 2026 for the abstract titled: “WORKFLOW-INTEGRATED DIGITAL PLATFORM FOR PROCEDURE PLANNING AND REAL-TIME CAPTURE OF JACIE-REQUIRED KPIS IN APHERESIS UNITS AND CELL THERAPY PROCESSING AND CRYOPRESERVATION LABORATORIES”.
The Quality Management Day once again proved to be a dynamic forum for learning, reflection and exchange. Attendees benefited from a rich programme combining formal sessions with interactive formats, encouraging both knowledge-sharing and open discussion.
Key Highlights and Shared Successes
Throughout the day, several inspiring themes emerged:
- Quality as a culture, embedded in everyday practice and championed by all professional groups
- Continuous improvement, driven by meaningful data, audit and reflection
- Risk-based approaches, supporting smarter and more proportionate quality management
- Education and engagement, empowering teams through shared understanding and expertise
- Collaboration across centres, strengthened through discussion, shared experience and events such as the Meet the Expert sessions
These themes celebrated both the progress already made and the collective ambition to keep improving.
The day also provided an important opportunity to recognise the commitment and expertise of quality professionals, whose work supports clinical teams and ensures the safe delivery of increasingly complex therapies.
With Thanks to Our Speakers and Chairs
The success of Quality Management Day 2026 would not have been possible without the dedication, expertise and enthusiasm of the session speakers and chairs. Their willingness to share knowledge, practical experience and insight created a rich and engaging programme and stimulated thoughtful discussion throughout the day. The JACIE Quality Managers Committee extends sincere thanks to all contributors for their valuable input and for helping to make the Quality Management Day such a meaningful and rewarding experience for attendees.
