Belgian Hematology Society Nurses Group's update

By Cristina Baiana, Chair of the BHS Nurses committee and Marijke Quaghebeur, Member of the BHS Nurses committee

We are nurses working in the field of hematology and stem cell transplantation and coming from different regions of Belgium: Brussels, Hasselt, Ghent, Bruges, Namur, Antwerp, Roeselare, etc. We work together for the quality of patient care, the defense of the nursing profession. We are the nurse committee of the Belgian Hematology Society (BHS) and we represent Belgium at the EBMT.

What have we done in 2021?

  • Continuing nursing education: Organizing annual meeting nurses 2021 (virtual) or other educationnal meeting as the post EBMT.
  • Creating links with other groups active in haematology (or oncology) such as EONS, GFIC-GM (Francophone Group of Marrow Transplant Coordinators and Nurses)
  • Working together with companies to create practical tools for care (as program of gestion of peripherical polyneuropathy).

In the future, we would like to create a newsletter for all nursing members and have more visibility to motivate nurses to join our association and to work with us because "together we are stronger".

On the 6th of May, a post EBMT Annual Meeting was organized for nurses but also for other health professionals as hematologists, data manager, quality manager. It took place via video conference. On the Dutch side, it was the 3rd edition and they gathered more than 190 people. On the French side, it was the 1st edition, and they gathered more than 80 people.

Different topics were presented on this occasion, a way to share knowledge, to share a bit of EBMT for those who could not attend the Annual Meeting. A way to continue to be informed and trained.
