“Share Knowledge, Share Life” is the slogan of the one-week blood donation campaign that took place in Madrid from 21 to 28 March 2026.
This initiative was launched by Madrid City Council, through the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB), in partnership with the Blood Transfusion Centre of the Community of Madrid and the Spanish Red Cross.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and to encourage residents and visitors to contribute to saving lives.
As part of the campaign, a blood donation room was available at IFEMA Madrid, offering EBMT 2026 delegates the opportunity to donate blood on the third day during the 52nd Annual Meeting of the EBMT.
There were 21 blood donations, helping to improve the health of 67 patients. Then, during the week long Blood Donation campaign throughout Madrid, 1,578 people came to the mobile unit. 1,409 of them were able to donate blood that day, and 184 did so for the first time.
Each blood donation has the power to help improve the health of up to three people. Blood is separated into three components: red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, which are transfused to each patient according to their needs.
Thanks to these donations, 4,227 patients will be able to improve their health.
