Be a Hero and Donate Blood at EBMT 2026

To ensure the safety of both donors and recipients, you must:

• Be a citizen of the European Union (valid ID required)
• Be between 18 and 65 years old
• Be in good general health
• Have had:
  • No recent infections
  • No tattoos or piercings within the last 4 months
  • No major surgery within the last 6 months

Medical staff will assess your eligibility before donation.

On the day of your donation:

• ✅ Eat a light meal 2 hours beforehand (avoid fatty foods and dairy products)
• ✅ Drink plenty of water before and after donation
• ❌ Do not smoke for at least one hour prior
• ❌ Do not arrive fasting

1. Registration & Questionnaire: Completion of a personal and medical information form.
2. Medical Interview: A brief confidential consultation to confirm eligibility.
3. Blood Donation: The blood draw typically takes 8–10 minutes.
4. Rest & Refreshments: After donating, relax in the refreshment area and enjoy water, juice, soft drinks, and a light snack (such as chips or a muffin).

A blood donation room (Room A.9.12) will be available at IFEMA Madrid, offering EBMT congress delegates the opportunity to donate blood on Day 3 (Tuesday) during the Annual Meeting.

No appointment is required. Walk-ins are welcome during operating hours.

Aside from the onsite donation room in IFEMA, there will also be two fixed areas in different parts of the city of Madrid: 

Gran Vía: next to the Gran Vía metro station (corner of Montera)
Monday to Friday from 11:00-20:45 (CET)
Weekend from 10:00-20:45 (CET)

Blood Donation Room at Calle Juan Montalvo 3
Monday to Friday from 9:00-20:30 (CET)

The city of Madrid hosts more than 3,500 conferences a year. "Share knowledge, share life" seeks to have its participants contribute positively to the city's blood reserves, thereby improving the public health of Madrid, as a solidarity action beneficial to the entire local community.

This campaign is part of the legacy strategy of the Madrid Convention Bureau, whose objective is that the participants in conferences hosted by this city contribute to the common good of the people of Madrid, in return for their stay. Along with this donation unit, another identical unit is currently working at the venue of a conference.
