Role of participants

The principal investigator within this SSA will be the EBMT in that the group will take on the role of ‘Sponsor’ for trans-European prospective clinical studies as defined by the EU Directive on Clinical Trials. The EBMT represents individual transplant units, national transplant societies and national unrelated donor registries. The EBMT will actively collaborate with, and be supported and influenced by the experience of the Centre for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR). The very particular role of addressing trans-national attitudes to the ethical issues of clinical studies will be the role of the Centre for Professional Ethics, University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). The former EBMT President, Professor Jane Apperley, is the Chair of the Department of Haematology at Imperial College in London. From this base she will coordinate the management of this project and for this reason Imperial College is named as a partner.
