EBMT 2006 Welcome

Annual meeting in Hamburg

Alsteransicht

This year's Annual Meeting is rapidly approaching and we would once more like to cordially invite you to attend EBMT 2006, to be held from Sunday March 19th and Wednesday March 22nd in Hamburg, Germany.

We were pleased to receive 846 abstracts for the physicians and data manager programme, with a further 134 abstracts being submitted to the nurses group. The best abstracts selected by specialist teams of international reviewers will be presented during 16 Oral sessions and in the nurse's programme, highlighting recent progress in the field.

We would also like to draw your attention to the Plenary, Educational, Workshop and new Controversy sessions, where the uses of embryonic vs. adult stem cells; the immunological background of stem cell transplantation and new indications will be presented. The challenge to some “old” indications set by recent improvements in “conventional” treatment will also be discussed.

A record number of Satellite Symposia will be held throughout Sunday from 9 am onwards and we strongly recommend that you arrive the evening before, so as not to miss the high-quality presentations carefully put together by the faculties and companies supporting EBMT.

In place of the traditional EBMT lecture, this year for the first time the Opening Session will focus on art, featuring a portrait of the famous German painter Emil Nolde (1867 – 1956). The presentation by Dr. Jörg Garbrecht entitled “The colours still glow – The art and life of Emil Nolde” will acquaint you with the more colourful aspects of Northern Germany, contrasting with the all too frequent grey skies between Northern and Baltic Seas.

We have also invited Claudia Liekam a contemporary artist living in Hamburg who designed the cover pages of the 1st and 2nd Announcements and the Final Programme. After the Opening Ceremony she will present a selection of her work and during the conference – with your help – she will build up an interactive multimedia “Handauflegen” (hands on) project.

On Monday evening you will have the opportunity to listen to an Organ Concert at “St. Michaelis”, Hamburg's most famous church and landmark. Tuesday evening we then invite you to the EBMT Party at the Suellberg Terraces, overlooking the river Elbe and harbour. Excellent food prepared by guest chef Karlheinz Hauser, live band and disco music, plus a number of planned surprises should give you more than one reason to join us for the social highlight of the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you in Hamburg.
