JACIE Accreditation

JACIE

Accreditation

39 centres are now accredited. Approximately 20 other centres are correcting deficiencies identified during inspections and over 50 are in process. For a full list of accredited centres please click here.

If you expect to apply for accreditation, please contact the JACIE Office as this information helps us in planning for inspections over the next 12-18 months.

Reaccreditation: the start of the second accreditation cycle

image

In October, the first centre to go through reaccreditation was inspected with another centre due to be visited very shortly. In 2008, 19 more centres will face reaccreditation. Ideally, a centre should anticipate being prepared for reinspection approximately 6 months before the expiry of accreditation in order to allow time to correct deficiencies where they are identified and to maintain accreditation without any gaps. From the experience of our colleagues in FACT, we realise that reaccreditation can be as challenging as the first inspection.

In addition, the 3rd edition of the standards is more specific in areas such as quality management and so some adjustments to current practice will probably be required. With this in mind, the JACIE Office has been contacting centres by telephone and email to explain the process, answering any questions that may arise and to offer as much guidance to centres as possible. If you are looking at reaccreditation within the next 12 months or so, please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any assistance.

Inspection Guide for Applicants and Inspectors

The Inspection Guide has been updated recently and is now at version 2.5.1. Any significant changes from previous versions are noted on the document so that you can quickly see the differences. The document is available for download from the Document Centre at:
www.jacie.org.

3rd edition of the FACT-JACIE Accreditation Manual and Guidance

The 3rd edition of the Manual is nearing completion. In conjunction with our colleagues in the FACT Office, the final draft is being reviewed. This will then go to the respective FACT and JACIE Boards for approval and publication. At the time of writing, release is expected in the latter half of November 2007.

JACIE at the EBMT Annual Meeting, 30th March - 2nd April , 2008, Florence.

JACIE will feature strongly at the EBMT Annual Meeting. Under the title “Clinical Dilemmas in JACIE Accreditation”, the JACIE Session in 2008 will place the emphasis on interaction with the audience in the form of panel discussions and Question & Answers. This is an ideal opportunity to raise issues or to pose questions to the experts.

There will also be a Quality Management Exploratory Meeting. The primary objective of the meeting is to have an open discussion on how the profile of quality management can be raised at the EBMT Annual Meeting. The second objective is to establish a working group or committee that will develop a programme to be included in the 2009 EBMT meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Anyone with an interest in quality management is welcome to attend but we hope to see strong participation from quality managers, including ‘unofficial’ quality managers.

Inspectors

A half-day inspector refresher course will be held at the EBMT Meeting in Florence. The course is aimed at updating inspectors on developments in the Standards, providing guidance on specific issues that arise during inspections and getting feedback from the participants on their experiences and suggestions for improvements.

All registered inspectors will receive full details of the course later in November.

Training

Four training courses were held in 2007. In May, a Centre Preparation course was held for Greek participants only and was attended by representatives from all BMT programmes in Greece. Also in May, a course was held for Spanish centres preparing for accreditation. In June, another Centre Preparation course was held in Athens with participants coming from eight countries. An Inspector Training Course took place in Athens in September with nine countries represented.

The next course will take place on 20th - 21st November in Barcelona for Spanish participants with the generous support of the Spanish National Transplant Organisation (ONT). JACIE is sincerely grateful to both the organisers, sponsors and participants for making these courses such as success.

Training courses are generally organised at a national level by national societies or individual institutions. Another approach is the ‘JACIE Day’ which has been successfully organised in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Turkey and uses a more discussion-based format. If you or your national society are interested in organising a course or information day, JACIE can provide you with course format, slides, content and recommend experts. Please contact us at jacie@ebmt.org.

Updated Label Table for Cellular Therapy Products

FACT-JACIE has updated the requirements for labelling Cellular Therapy Products. This replaces the information found in the FACT-JACIE International Standards for Cellular Therapy Product Collection, Processing and Administration, Appendix I Cellular Therapy Product Labelling Table. The table has been adjusted slightly to:
(1) include "AF" for Product Modifiers under Partial Label
(2) to alter the requirements for inclusion of 'FOR AUTOLOGOUS USE ONLY'.
(3) Other slight changes are formatting only and do not impact on the labelling requirements. The amended table is included in the '0 3rd ed FACT-JACIE Standards.pdf' document available in the Document Centre.

In addition, a minor error was found under Part D of the JACIE release of the Standards. Reference D11.3.3 featured as D11.3.2.3. The text is unaffected and the reference appeared correctly in the Inspection Checklist. Download the corrected version of the 3rd edition of the Standards now available on the JACIE web site or by clicking here.
