It is a great pleasure for me to give you an update on the activities of the Lymphoma Working Party over the last few months.

Update and Publication of Retrospective Analyses

The following retrospective analyses are currently underway:

  • The analysis of long-term outcome after an allogeneic stem cell transplantation of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma patients, with specific analysis on the potential different results in terms of transplant related mortality, relapse rate, progression free survival and overall survival between those patients treated with a conventional conditioning regimen and a reduced intensity conditioning protocol and those being allografted from an HLA identical sibling or from a HLA-matched unrelated donor.

  • Long term outcome and late events of patients with lymphoproliferative disorders (follicular lymphoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma) treated with autologous stem cell transplantation.

  • Outcome of HIV+ patients diagnosed with lymphoma and treated with autologous stem cell transplantation. Comparison with a case-matched population of HIV negative patients.

Results of allogeneic stem cell transplantation in children and adolescents with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

  • Outcome of autologous stem cell transplantation in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with special enfasis in the impact of autologous transplant on those pateints autografted in complwete remission and of the advenement of the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody as first line therapy together with chemotherapy in this group of patients.
  • Reduced Intensity Versus Conventional Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation In Relapsed Or Refractory Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

These research activities have resulted in an increased number of LWP communications at international meetings. In 2006 the LWP presented the following: EBMT Annual Meeting: 6 communications, ASH Meeting: 4 communications. And in 2007: CIBMTR Tandem Meetings: 1 communication, EBMT Meeting: 6 communications, EHA Meeting: 2 communications, International Workshop on Multiple Myeloma: 2 communications, ASH Meeting: 9 communications.

The Working Party is also proud to report to EBMT Members the following recent publications:

  • Montoto S, Canals C, Rohatiner AZ, Taghipour G, Sureda A, Schmitz N, Gisselbrecht C, Fouillard L, Milpied N, Haouin C, Slavin S, Conde E, Fruchart C, Ferrant A, Leblond V, Tilly H, Lister A, Goldstone AH.

Journal of Clinical Oncology 2007 (in press).

  • Sureda A, Robinson S, Canals C, Carella AM, Boogaerts MA, Caballero D, Hunter AH, Kanz L,   Slavin S, Cornelissen JJ, Gramatzki M, Niederwiesser D, Russell NH, Schmitz N.

As a result of this increased activity, we have also improved our relationship with other Working Parties within EBMT, most notably with the Paediatrics and Late Effects, and also with other transplant-related organisations such as EUROCORD and CIBMTR. In the same sense, we have established strong relationships with our industry partners (Roche, Bayer Schering, Genzyme) who have supported the Lymphoma Working Party to perform retrospective analysis with common interest goals both sides.
