EBMT Registry Update

New offices for the EBMT in London

meeting

At the end of September, the staff at the EBMT office in London crossed the Thames to move into brand new premises in the Guy's and St. Thomas Trust (GSTT). The new premises are located on the 12th floor of the Guy's Tower, commanding an impressive view over South and East London, including the Tower Bridge. It is minutes away from the river, the Tate Gallery, the Globe Theatre and that, most impressive of horror tourist attractions, the London Dungeons, and serviced by a massive train/ underground/ bus station.

It was with a bit of sadness that we left our old location at University College Hospital Trust (UCLH). The EBMT has had a presence at UCLH since the late 80's, when Prof. Tony Goldstone created what was to become the EBMT Lymphoma Registry. Since then, the remit of the office increased providing services not only related to the registry, but also, in more recent years, related to clinical trials. It was at this moment of growth for the EBMT that space started to become a problem in UCLH, and the premises that UCLH could provide were not adequate for the work that needed to be done in the EBMT office, particularly in the context of clinical trials.

In our search for new premises, Dr. Majid Kazmi, consultant haematologist at the GSTT, came to our rescue. After several months of discussions and negotiations to assess the needs and responsibilities of both parties, substantial space was allocated for the EBMT in the Guy's Tower. Two large offices house the Registry and Clinical Trials staff, respectively, and individual offices have been allocated to senior personnel.

From chaos...

...to calm

We have left some good friends behind at UCLH. It is now time to thank Prof. Goldstone for his continuous support throughout the years. Even after stepping down from being the Head of the LWP, Prof. Goldstone has never failed to support the EBMT office in various ways during our stay in UCLH. We also want to thank staff at the UCL Cancer Trials Centre with whom we have worked very closely in the past. We hope that the Thames will not turn out to be an obstacle too difficult to cross and that the good relations and collaboration between the people left behind at UCLH and ourselves will continue.

Finally, we want to give our warmest thanks to Dr. Kazmi for his pivotal role in getting us here. We are delighted with the new offices and are looking forward to developing close connections with his department. Dr Kazmi added: "Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to welcome the EBMT London office. We are sure that housing the EBMT will enable us to foster closer links with both the EBMT and our fellow transplant centres in Europe. We look forward to working with the EBMT towards our goal of becoming a world class cancer centre.¨
