3rd EBMT International Transplant course

by
Events

The 3rd EBMT International Transplant course took place in Barcelona on 7-9 September 2018 with more than 200 participants not only from Europe but also from Brazil, Pakistan and Korea.

The EBMT-ITC is a major event to disseminate knowledge, and advance education in the fields of stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. It allows young physicians and nurses to learn from the most experienced practitioners but also to present their clinical cases and receive advice from the participants.

Furthermore the EBMT goals were highlighted during the meeting. These objectives are based on improving education through: the updated Handbook that will be published next spring; personal qualification and the EBMT exam for physicians and nurses; the EBMT mid-size events that focus on one specific topic and the launch of an E-learning platform.

We have asked one of our colleague, Dr Atta Gill, Clinical Fellow BMT at Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Sheffield, UK) to share his experience.
Case presentation: Malignant Multiple Sclerosis following allogeneic HSCT for Leukaemia: successful stabilisation with a “domino” autologous HSCT.

"First of all, I would like to thank EBMT Scientific committee for giving me an opportunity to present an interesting case to fellow haematology community.

It was a great experience to attend this course and it suits equally to both the experienced transplant specialists and trainees. It gave an up to date review of haematopoietic stem cell transplant practice.

The course is well balanced and covers all the important aspects of transplant. The case presentations were given adequate time and it provided a forum to young transplant physicians and trainees to learn from the experience of other colleagues from across the globe. The presentations were very well received by the audience and presenters were encouraged and appreciated by the senior colleagues.

The interest and commitment of participants can easily be judged from the full attendance till the very last session on all the days.

My own experience at ITC was great and I enjoyed every bit of it. The communication of organizing staff was no less than excellent. Right from submission of abstract till the presentation all stages were organized well in advance and in a timely manner.

I feel this course is a wonderful initiative by EBMT and should be continued for the dissemination of scientific information and also to promote research culture among young aspirants in this field. All in all I am very delighted to attend and present in this prestigious course.
