Rainer Storb, Seattle, USA was this year’s awardee of EBMT Honorary Membership. Prof. Storb’s pioneering work in less toxic forms of allogeneic marrow and blood stem cell transplants for malignant and non-malignant blood diseases has made a huge contribution to scientific knowledge in our field. Prof. Storb was presented with a hand-crafted statue as a token of his Honorary Membership by Prof. Dietger Niederwieser during the official Opening Session of EBMT 2008.
As an ode to his work, Prof. Storb also gave a stimulating and informative lunchtime talk on the ‘Past, present and future of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation’ which was very well attended.
