For the very first time this year an award was made during the Presidential Symposium for the best basic science abstract submitted to the meeting. The introduction of the award is aimed at increasing basic science at the meeting and has been generously sponsored this year by Genzyme to the amount of 2000€. The prize winning abstract was selected by a specially appointed BSA Committee led by the Co-Chairs of the EBMT Developmental Committee, Katarina Le Blanc and Willem Fibbe.
The first award went to A. Avigdor et al. from Israel for their abstract entitled: ‘MT1-MMP and RECK inversely regulate haematopoietic progenitor cell egress.’ (full abstract can be viewed byclicking here)
It is hoped that this prize will continue to be awarded at subsequent EBMT Annual Meetings.
