EBMT-AMGEN Fellowship Awards

Two EBMT-AMGEN Fellowship awards, which aim to promote preclinical and clinical research in the field of haemato-oncology, were presented at EBMT 2008. The winners were as follows:

Haefaa Achalby who will be studying the 'detection of minimal residual disease after nonmyeloablative haematopoietic stem cell transplantation in myelofibrosis by a highly sensitive PCR assay of JAK2V617F or MPLW515L/K’ under the tutelage of Prof. Nicolas Kröger at the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany.

Mieke Aldenhoven who will be conducting ‘an international multi-centre study evaluating the long term outcome of successful stem cell transplantation in Hurler syndrome patients’ under the tutelage of Prof. Robert Wynn at the Royal Manchester Children`s Hospital, Manchester, United Kingdom.

Both winners were invited on stage by Prof. Niederwieser to receive their award certificates from Mary Uhlenhopp, Sr. Mgr., Ally and Ally Development, from Amgen (Europe) and Pam Bacon, International Medical Affairs Director, Amgen Oncology. Mary Uhlenhopp stated: ¨We are proud to support the EBMT Amgen Clinical Fellowship programme and hope it offers the opportunity for these researchers to pursue these important projects and ultimately brings advances in haemato-oncology research and improvements in patient care.¨

The EBMT Fellowship Selection Committee would also like to congratulate both winners on the high-caliber of their submissions and wishes them the very best of luck with their projects. We can look forward to an update on all of the EBMT-AMGEN Fellowship projects at the EBMT 2009 meeting in Göteborg.
