Dear EBMT NG Members,
First of all, a Happy and Healthy New Year to all of you and your families!

EBMT NG Board at a recent meeting last December in Florence |
This is already the 3rd edition of the Nurses Group Newsletter – and sadly my last that I will be able to welcome you to. The work involved in putting together the Newsletter is always a challenge and the editorial subcommittee or rather the Communication & Networking Committee, which much better reflects their task, has worked hard once again and provided an interesting selection of nursing group activities. If you have information you would like to share or know a colleague who has done some interesting work in the care for the haematology/stem cell transplantation patient, please don’t hesitate to contact Sara Zulu who will certainly support you in publishing it in the Newsletter.
Many of you will be getting ready to go to the 24th Meeting of the EBMT Nurses Group, which will take place with physicians, data managers and allied health care professionals. Like last year, we will start the event on Saturday 29th March with the 2nd EBMT Patient & Family Day, providing patients and their families with the opportunity to talk to experts and find answers to questions that they may have. On Sunday 30th March the 4th Pre-Meeting Study Day will be held, which will specifically focus on acute leukaemia and nutrition issues.
The start of the conference officially takes place on Monday 31st March and as in previous years we have invited excellent speakers to present their expert knowledge in educational sessions every morning at the start of the day. You may actually find it difficult to make a choice between the many different and interesting topics! However, workshops taking place during the EBMT 2008 Conference will provide lots of opportunities to discuss issues and experience sharing information in smaller more intimate groups. Many of these will take place on the Monday afternoon, so take the opportunity and participate in one of the challenging topics.
Florence is of course a very attractive city with plenty of art, history and culture to explore. But, try not to forget that the main interest should be the knowledge you can gain in discussing professional questions with colleagues. I’m sure that many of you are preparing posters or oral presentations and the board would like to thank all of you that submitted abstracts. We are all curious to learn from what appears to be quite a broad variety of topics!
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all the colleagues that have supported me so strongly throughout the past two years of my presidency of the EBMT Nurses Group Board. It has been a great experience and I would like to wish Erik Aerts, who will step into the role of president immediately after the conference, all the very best!
I look forward to seeing you in Florence!
Monica Fliedner
President of the EBMT Nurses Group
