EBMT NG German National Group Update
During the last meeting of the German Nurses Group in October 2007 a new steering committee was elected. The new members are Gundula Hopp (Stuttgart), Gudrun Rother (Kiel) and Ralf Schmacker (Oldenburg) who was elected as speaker of the working group for bone marrow transplantation.
Two referees were invited and lectured on special subjects. Mr. Michael Jung gave a lecture on "Fatigue Assessment in paediatric oncology" and Mr. Frerk Baumann on "Physical trainings for patients with bone marrow transplantation". With regard to the latter subject questionnaires will be sent to the different centres for bone marrow transplantation/stem cell transplantation in Germany, Switzerland and Austria in order to obtain an overview of the services for physical training in the different hospitals.

EBMT-NG Middle European National Group Update
The EBMT-NG Middle European National Group carries on its research activities. In addition to the ongoing project focused on observation of oral mucositis characteristics and related clinical risk factors in patients after autologous stem cell transplantation, the Group performed a survey concerning characteristics of Protective isolation units within cooperating East and Middle European BMT centers.
Nurses from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Estonia, Slovenia and Russia have been active participants in both of these research projects that will be presented in Florence EBMT meeting 2008.
Based on literature reviewed including the following;“JACIE” requests, internal research analysis (Nurse-staffing standards within Middle-European National EBMT Nurses Group transplant units).
Book of abstracts, EBMT Annual Congress 2007 in Lyon, Bone Marrow Transplant. (3/2007, supplement, p 243) And, discussion - the Middle European National Nurses Group has defined its internal and non-mandatory “Recommendations on Nurse-staffing in BMT units”.
During the summer of 2007, nurses within the group were given a generous offer on behalf of the University Hospital Zurich and the Canton Hospital St. Gallen, Switzerland to take part in an educational hematology course. Two nurses from CZ have already registered for it and will participate in January 2008. The Grant offer was presented to cooperating transplant centers and two nurses from the Czech Republic have already registered for it.
In the autumn of 2007, the Chair of the group Eva Bystricka, greeted Nordic BMT transplant center nurses and via e-mail shared some experience and wished good luck to a potentially new international EBMT-NG.
