Don’t miss this special satellite symposium at the EBMT Conference that will be held on Sunday, March 30th, between 9-10.30am
In recent years the management of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) has been revolutionised by the availability of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) that target the BCR-ABL protein. Adherence to TKIs is of critical importance to CML outcomes with both cytogenetic and molecular responses strongly correlated to imatinib plasma trough levels. However, some patients struggle to adhere to long-term therapy with oral TKIs.
Non-adherence to medicines has been described by the World Health Organisation as “a worldwide problem of striking magnitude”. It is associated with unnecessary disease progression, disease complications, reduced quality of life and even death. Medicines non-adherence is a complex and multi-faceted problem that is influenced by behavioural, social, economic, medical and policy factors which makes it very difficult to tackle effectively. Frontline health professionals, especially nurses, play a key role in promoting medicines adherence and, therefore, it is important that they are aware of the scope of the problem and how best to manage it. With this in mind Novartis Oncology is pleased to organise a satellite symposium at the EBMT Conference which will be held in Florence in March 2008. This symposium, which will take place on Sunday March 30th between 9-10.30am, aims to:
The symposium will include four presentations and an interactive session where the audience will have the opportunity to contribute to discussions on how best to promote adherence to CML therapies and help improve CML outcomes. Speakers will include a haematology nurse specialist, two CML experts and a CML patient patient.
All nurses attending EBMT are invited to this special symposium to learn more about how to improve medicines adherence in the haematology setting. Further details about the satellite symposium can be found on the EBMT Conference Website.
