Definition

The structure of the EBMT comprises a number of Working Parties through which the Group carries out its specific functions. The nature of the Working Parties is varied but the majority are disease-based. The number of Working Parties is flexible to permit their creation and dissolution by members of the EBMT Board, according to the needs of the Group at a particular time.

A Working Party is comprised of a variable number of individual members who demonstrate expertise and enthusiasm in areas deemed to be of value to the Working Party. The membership of any Working Party is designed to be fluid and flexible. Membership is open to any individual member of the EBMT. Members of the Working Parties are not elected and the duration of membership is not fixed. Members are co-opted by the Chair of the Working Party according to the needs of the Working Party at the time.

The officers of each Working Party consist of a Chair and a Secretary. The Chair of each Working Party is elected by the member centres of the EBMT. Voting takes place at the Annual General Meeting and each centre is allowed to submit one vote, irrespective of the number of individual members nominated by that centre or by the transplant activity of that centre. Each Chair is elected for three years and may be re-elected for a further three years maximum.

Within the organisation of each individual Working Party, the Chair will nominate a Secretary. The Secretary will normally serve the Working Party for the duration of the Chairmanship and may be re-elected indefinitely if the incoming Chair agrees.

Other officers of the Working Party, e.g., Chairs of sub-committees, writing committees, study co-ordinator etc. may be deemed necessary by the Chair at any time.

Each Working Party will hold meetings at least twice a year, one of which may be held at the Annual Meeting of the EBMT. Minutes of each meeting will be recorded, kept by the Working Party Secretary, and submitted to the EBMT Secretary as a permanent record of the Working Party's activities. For more information on EBMT-related meetings, consult related meetings.
