Background

In 1990, the EBMT introduced an annual survey to prospectively collect numbers of patients treated with a hematopoetic stem cell transplant according to indication, donor type and stem cell source. Its importance was immediately realised and since then, the survey has become an instrumental tool for assessing the real picture of HSCT in Europe, recognising trends, illustrating the current status and providing essential data for counselling and planning. This survey is relevant to health care agencies, industries as well as patients. In addition, it serves as a quality control instrument for comparison with national agencies or for the EBMT auditing process.

All transplant teams are invited to join the survey: for EBMT members it is a mandatory process, for non-members it is voluntary.

Participate in the 2007 Activity Survey

Participate in the 2007 Activity Survey Data reported to the EBMT Med AB database -Promise- is not automatically included in the Activity Survey. Even if you report your transplant data to the EBMT, by paper Med A form, electronically with the ProMISe system or via a National Registry, please report to this survey too.

Instructions:

1. Click on the link 'EBMT Calender Year Survey 2007'
2. Save the file to your Desktop or another easy to remember location.
3. Name the file "CIC (your number)". If you do not have a CIC number, call the file after your institution.
4. Complete the data fields.
5. Email the form to the survey coordinator at baldomeroh@uhbs.ch.

The 2007 calendar year survey may be accessed by clicking on the link above. New in this years survey is the collection of data on the numbers of patients given mesenchymal stromal (stem) cells (MSC) and the numbers of patients given hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) for non hematopoietic use. We realise that such treatments may be undertaken by a different department within your institution and that you may not have access to this data. In such cases please mark the fields with an asterix (*).

We recommend that you read the guidelines carefully before filling out the survey.

Please report transplants that have been performed in 2007 only:

  • All first allogeneic transplants and first autologous transplants should be reported according to indication, donor type and stem cell source in the main Table 1.
  • Other transplants, which are not the patient's first allograft or first autograft, can be reported in Table 2 (if allogeneic) or Table 3 (if autologous).
  • First cord blood transplants can be reported in Table 1 by disease category. You can also report any 'retransplants or additional transplants' performed using cord blood transplants in as a total number in Table 2. As a control please report the total number of cord blood transplants in Table 4.
  • Reduced Intensity Conditioning transplants (RIC) and patients receiving Donor Lymphocyte Infusions (DLI) can be entered in Table 4.
  • Patients receiving Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) can be reported in Table 4 as a total number.
  • Patients receiving Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSC) for non hematopoietic use (i.e. for cardiovascular or neurological use or for tissue repair) can be reported in Table 4 as a total.
  • Table 5 provides us with the total number of all transplants performed in 2007 by adding together the totals of Table 1, 2 and 3.
  • In addition we would like to know how many of the allogeneic transplants are part of a planned auto/mini allograft protocol. To report these numbers use the column on the left side of Table 1. Please report the total number of allografts by indication which have been part of a planned 'auto/mini allo' transplant program. These transplants should also be reported in Table 1 as with other first transplants. Do not include these numbers in the totals of Table 1.
Please use the document 'Reduced Intensity Conditioning definitions' drafted in 2005 by the EBMT Definitions Committee in London to aid your reporting of RIC (mini allo) transplants.

Please also use the ´disease definitions document´ for defining any indications that you are unsure about.
