In
1990, the EBMT introduced an annual survey to prospectively collect numbers of
patients treated with a haematopoetic stem cell transplant according to indication,
donor type and stem cell source. Its importance was immediately realised and since
then, the survey has become an instrumental tool for assessing the real picture
of HSCT in Europe, recognising trends, illustrating the current status and providing
essential data for counselling and planning. This survey is relevant to health
care agencies, industries as well as patients. In addition, it serves as a quality
control instrument for comparison with national agencies or for the EBMT auditing
process.
Participate in the 2009 Activity Survey. Note that the Med A data reported to the EBMT Med AB database -Promise- is not automatically included in the Activity Survey. Even if you report your transplant data to the EBMT, by paper Med A form, electronically with the ProMISe system or via a National Registry, please report to this survey too.
Instructions: Table 1: Report the total number of patients receiving their 1st transplant in your centre in 2009. Report the first allogeneic transplant and/or first autologous transplant per patient according to disease indication, donor type and stem cell source as outlined in Table 1. You may include the same patient twice as long as the first occurrence of each type of transplant took place in 2009. The following EBMT/JACIE/FACT definitions for ‘first transplants’ apply:
The column ‘total allo after auto’ refers to patients with their disease treatment in a planned ‘allo after auto’ transplant programme. Enter these patients in both the respective allogeneic or autologous transplant section in the main table and in the column ‘total allo after auto’ on the right side. The following definitions for donor type and stem cell source apply:
For combinations of stem cell products / donor types:
Table 2 and Table 3: Report the total number of retransplants and additional (non-first) transplants performed with allogeneic (table 2) or autologous (table 3) BM, PBSC or Cord blood in 2009 The following definitions for table 2 and 3 apply only if the rules for 1st transplants do not apply:
Table 4: collects generic information (i.e. total numbers only) on additional cellular therapies or technologies.
Please note that in 2008 the EBMT started a second survey for the collection of information on cell transplants with non-hematopoietic cells and /or hematopoietic cells for non-hematopoietic use. The separate Cellular Therapy activity survey is enclosed. If you have performed such transplants, report them on this survey sheet, if not please return the survey with ‘Zero’ written across it. If you know of departments within your centre performing such transplants, please contact your colleagues and coordinate the Cellular Therapy survey with them. Table 5: To calculate the total number of transplants in 2009: add together the total number of allogeneic transplants from Table 1 + Table 2 = Total allo HSCT and the total number of autologous transplants from Table 1 + Table 3 = Total auto HSCT to provide the total number of ALL TRANPLANTS performed in 2009. Disease classification dictionary: the classification of diseases for the survey follows the EBMT disease classification dictionary, which can be found at: www.ebmt.org - Registry - Transplant Activity survey – Alphabetical list of Disease Classifications. Please note that reporting to the activity survey does not substitute for sending the MED-A data to the EBMT registry. Please send back both the EBMT activity survey and the Cellular Therapy activity survey to:
