FP7
Marie Curie Actions

The
Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development
(FP7) is the European Unionīs chief instrument for funding research over
the period 2007 to 2013. FP7 kicked off at the beginning of 2007 and is
divided into 4 main programmes (each comprising several different "actions"):
There is therefore a large amount of funding which is
potentially available for the support of post-doctorate researchers, visitors
to EU Member States, and extended visits overseas.

The EBMT is currently promoting three new fellowship visiting schemes
which fall under the umbrella of People (Click
here to download the ¨People¨ Work Programme ):
Centres listed as EBMT
Higher Educational Institutes (HEI's) are all willing to host fellows
from the above schemes. Where possible we have included research areas
of particular interest to the centres to orientate you towards making
the best choice.

Intra-European
Fellowships for Career Development (IEF)-The Basics

What are Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development?
This action aims at supporting experienced researchers (someone
with a doctorate who is at least 4 years from his first degree (no upper
age limit). at various stages of their career, assisting them in acquiring
new research skills (multi or interdisciplinary) or to undertake inter-sectoral
experiences.
Who can apply?
Researchers from an EU Member State or Associated Country or Assimilated
State (see
annex 2 section 2 of full guide) who at the date of the deadline are
in possession of a PhD, or having at least 4 years of full-time equivalent
experience after obtaining the degree allowing them to embark on a doctorate.
(Full
eligibility criteria are provided in Annex 2 of the full guide)
Which research topics are supported?
All Marie Curie actions have a bottom-up approach, i.e.
research fields are chosen freely by the applicants. All domains of research
and technological development addressed under the EC Treaty are eligible.
In this case we would imagine the research to fall under Life Sciences
(LIF) for full
list please click here.
How does it work?
Proposals are submitted jointly by the host organisation and the individual
researcher within the specified deadline of 14th
August 2007 and are reviewed by external independent experts
against a series of predetermined criteria.
How much funding is available?
The amount depends on several parameters: the researcher's
level of experience and family situation, the country where the host is
located, and whether it is a laboratory based project or not. The contribution
relates to the cost of the fellowship and directly related costs only.
The host institution must cover all other costs related to hosting
the fellow and the implementation of the project. Financial support
will be provided to the proposals selected by the Commission, for a period
of 12 to 24 months full-time equivalents. To
follow a simple simulation click here.
How to apply...
All proposals are submitted electronically via the Commission's Electronic
Proposal Submission Service (EPSS). Submission opens via EPSS at
least 4 weeks before the deadline for the call and requires various
uploads and downloads on behalf of the coordinator and the host institution.
The procedure is explained step-by-step online. For
more details please see relevant section in full guide.

research organisation, and subsequently return to an organisation
in a Member State (MS) or Associated Country(AC).
Who can apply?
Researchers from a Member State (MS) or Associated Country (AC), who at
the sate of the deadline are in possession of a doctoral degree or
have at least 4-years full time equivalent research experience after obtaining
the degree which allows them to embark on a doctorate. (Full
eligibility criteria are provided in Annex 2 of the full guide)

How much funding is available?
This Community contribution depends on several parameters
including the researcher's level of experience and family situation, the
countries where the research activities will be carried out, and whether
it is a laboratory based project or not. Funding is provided for advanced
training on the basis of the 'personal career development plan'. It
includes in particular a salary for the researcher and a contribution
towards research related costs. Financial support will be provided

Incoming Fellowships (IIF)-The Basics

What are International Incoming Fellowships?
These are individual fellowships that aim to attract top-class
researchers from third countries to and undertake research training
in Europe for a period of 1 to 2 years (incoming phase), with a view
to developing mutually beneficial research co-operation. In the case of
fellows coming from emerging and transition economies and developing countries,
they may also provide funding to help fellows to return to their country
of origin for roughly half the duration of the first phase (re-integration
phase)
Who can apply?
Researchers who hold the nationality of any third country, and who at
the date of the deadline are in possession of a doctoral degree or have
at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience after obtaining
the degree allowing them to embark on a doctorate. (Full
eligibility criteria are provided in Annex 2 of the full guide)

How does it work?
Following the publication of a call for proposals, proposals are submitted
jointly by the host organisation and the individual researcher and if
applicable with a re-integration host in a third country within the specified
deadline of 14th August 2007.
How much funding is available?
Financial support will be provided to the best proposals
for a period of 12 to 24 months (full-time equivalent) plus an eventual
return phase of 12 months. Funding is provided to cover the expenses
related to the researcher and the project. During the incoming phase it
includes a salary for the researcher and an allowance for costs related
to travel and mobility, as well as a contribution towards research related
costs. Additionally, the host receives contributions to overheads
and management costs. During the re-integration phase, the grant is
to be used as a contribution to the scientific costs related to the researcher's
project at the re-integration host. To
